Part Time Position for 2025-2026 School Year Anderson County SSA


Job Title: Licensed Professional Counselor/LPCA


Reports to: Katie Abbott,Director of Special Education


Dept./School: Anderson County SSA


Primary Purpose:


Provide counseling services to support the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students. Collaborate with educators, parents, and support staff to develop intervention strategies that promote student success. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations while fostering a safe and supportive school environment.


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:

● Master’s degree in Counseling or related field

● Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification in the state of Texas or LPCA


Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

● Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding mental health and education

● Understanding of child and adolescent development, including individual needs of students with disabilities

● Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff

● Strong problem-solving, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution skills

● Ability to implement policies, procedures, and best practices in school counseling

● Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

● Provide individual and group counseling to students to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns.

● Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) in collaboration with educators and special education teams.

● Assist students in developing coping strategies, self-regulation techniques, and positive decision-making skills.

● Conduct risk assessments and crisis intervention as needed, ensuring student safety and well-being.


Program Management:

● Participate in the ARD process by providing input on students’ emotional and behavioral needs, as well as supporting the development of IEP goals.

● Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and administrators to support students’ mental health needs.

● Maintain thorough documentation of student interactions, interventions, and progress in compliance with district and legal requirements.

● Provide training and support to staff and parents regarding mental health concerns, intervention strategies, and available resources.

● Ensure adherence to all applicable state and federal laws related to counseling, special education, and student confidentiality (FERPA, IDEA, Section 504).

● Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and external agencies to coordinate student support services.

● Stay current with best practices and continuing education in school counseling and mental health services.
