Position Title: Behavior Coach
Location: Slocum PK-8 Campus
Salary Range: Slocum ISD Salary Schedule
Length of Work Year: 10 Months
Position Summary
The Behavior Coach will be responsible for academic and behavioral intervention services for
the school’s at risk population. The primary role of the Behavior Coach is to be preemptive so
that more children have their social, emotional, and behavioral needs met in the general
education classroom and will ensure that all students are supported in a manner that will
successfully address the rate of repeat at-risk social, emotional, and behavioral manifestations.
The Behavior Coach will provide social-emotional education in the classroom and social
emotional education guidance for the classroom teachers. The Behavior Coach will work closely
with the Counselor and Principals to reduce negative behaviors and encourage positive
behaviors.
Position Requirements
Education/Certification/License:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teacher’s certificate
Experience: Two years teaching experience
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues which
significantly impact students
Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations
to students, parents, and district staff
Ability to collaborate with campus staff to plan and implement SEL instruction and
behavior plans
Duties/Responsibilities
Guidance
Proactively teach coping, organizational, and interpersonal skills in a social and
academic context
Provide individual coaching for at-risk students
Be available to students who are in crisis and provide them with the necessary support
Respond to significant disruptions
De-escalate significant/disruptive social, emotional, and behavioral responses in students
and then reinsert the student into their classroom as appropriate
Consultation
Coordinate school, home, and community resources and refer students, parents, and
others to Counselor, special programs, and services as needed.
Work collaboratively to advocate for individual students and specific groups of students.
Data Management & Compliance
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents.
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule,
and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations
Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards for teachers including current
professional standards of competence and practice.
