Welcome to Slocum ISD
The Slocum Independent School District has been meeting the educational needs of the children in Southeast Anderson County since the latter 1800s. Located in a rural area on State Highway 294, Slocum High School and Slocum PK-8 have a combined enrollment of approximately 360 students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve. The district is known for exhibiting outstanding levels of student performance and developing future ready citizens who display great character.
Students enrolled in Slocum High School have excelled in University Interscholastic League academic and athletic competitions. Four athletic teams have claimed state championships and eleven have been state qualifiers. The 2009 Mustang Basketball team captured the Class A Division II State Championship, the first in the school’s history. In 2017, the Lady Mustang Softball Team captured their first state title and followed that with a second championship in 2018. The Mustang Baseball Team also captured their first state title in 2018. In 2019, the SHS CX Debate Team was State Runner-up.
In recent years the district’s effort to continually improve the quality of the schools is evidenced by the district:
Offering students the latest in technology
The growth of the concurrent enrollment program for high school students
Constructing an agriculture science and technology building
Passing a $3.3 million bond
Building a new high school
Renovating existing facilities
The district is proud to be a small, family oriented district whose accomplishments are weighed in the success of its students. The schools are committed to providing all students with the foundation to be life-long learners and productive citizens. Slocum ISD provides students with the ability to think at a higher level that includes problem solving and the basic knowledge of reading, mathematics, writing, science and social studies. “Excellence in Education” is the motto of Slocum ISD and the district is committed to meeting the expectations of that motto.
