COVID-19 Extension Letter

March 31, 2020,

To All Slocum ISD Students, Parents, and Guardians,

As you may have heard, Governor Greg Abbott has extended school closures in Texas through May 4.  Though this is certainly not the ideal situation for educating your children, it is so crucial and even mandated by the State of Texas that we provide home-based instruction for all of our students.  Depending on how long this lasts, students could be out of “regular school” for up to five months.  It is critical that parents and guardians make sure students are completing home-based learning assignments and activities.

Teachers and staff are working hard to provide home-based instruction for students.  If you need information or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s teacher or campus principal.

For safety reasons, students are still not allowed in school buildings, but school wireless internet can be accessed from the school parking lots if needed.

Slocum ISD will continue to distribute school meals to students at their homes or through pickup at the back of the cafeteria.  If you would like more information about school meals, please contact Food Service Director Tracy Mersiovsky at or at (903) 478-3624.

We will continue to monitor the situation and are hopeful that school will resume in May.  Please follow Slocum ISD on Facebook or check the webpage often for updates at
